The blissful promise of a long weekend is around the corner for some.

But which Aussie states get the October public holiday and which ones aren’t so lucky?

Some states and territories are set to enjoy the Labour Day or King’s Birthday public holiday on October 7.

Here’s who gets a public holiday in October, and which states and territories don’t.

Who gets the public holiday in October?

If you live in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australia or Queensland, you will get a public holiday on Monday October 7.

NSW, the ACT and SA all mark Labour Day on this date, while Queenslanders have the day off for the King’s Birthday.

In unfortunate news for those living in Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory, you won’t get the October long weekend this year.

Some states will have different public holidays close to October, though.

The Friday before the AFL Grand Final will be a public holiday this year for Victorians.

This falls on September 28 this year.

People living in Victoria will also enjoy a public holiday for the Melbourne Cup on November 5.

Western Australians had their October public holiday a little early this year on September 23.

Some parts of Tasmania will enjoy a public holiday on Recreation Day, which falls on November 4 this year.

Those living in the Northern Territory have been dealt the worst hand in 2024, with residents having to wait until Christmas for another public holiday.
