New observational series Outback Crystal Hunters premieres tonight on 7mate.

The 8 part series is made by WA based Prospero Productions (Outback Truckers, Outback Opal Hunters, Opal Hunters: Red Dirt Road Trip, Junior Doctors Down Under).

In the hostile Australian Outback, five courageous crystal hunting teams confront extreme conditions, from scorching deserts to frigid underground mines, in a bid to unearth some of the world’s rarest and breathtaking crystals.

Fuelled by celebrity endorsements and a four-trillion-dollar-a-year global wellness industry, the crystal trade is booming, and Australia has some of the most ancient & richest deposits on earth.

Outback Crystal Hunters are on a quest to uncover these geological marvels – from giant million-dollar Amethyst clusters to magical, colour-changing Zircons. All these impassioned crystal hunters are driven to unearth and showcase these ancient wonders to the world while hungry to secure a life-changing payday.

Episode One:
In the harsh Western Australia desert, Patrick Gundersen and Kirsty McMullan make the discovery of a lifetime – unearthing Australia’s largest Amethyst cluster. Now they face the daunting challenge of loading the giant 21-tonne million-dollar crystal onto a semi-trailer in over 40 degrees Celsius, without breaking its fragile crystal points. Geologist Pete Willems and crystal miner Kyle Archer hunt for ultra-rare Crocoite crystals in Tasmania’s historic Red Lead Mine. Inside a cramped 180-metre-long tunnel, the pair struggle to extract extremely fragile crystal specimens before the arrival of a buyer from the United States. But a chance find could turn their fortunes around. The Rockhounds, Ebriony Rawlins and Frankie Antoni, make an epic-off road trek to the legendary O’Brien’s Creek gem field in tropical Far North Queensland. After leaving their landscaping jobs to hunt crystals, the couple desperately need a haul of lucrative Topaz crystals to pay their bills.

8:30pm Monday on 7mate.
