C3! will mark 30 years with an event this Saturday at Cathedral Hall in Fitzroy

“As Channel 31 celebrates its 30th anniversary, we’re excited to share some key milestones that demonstrate the station’s profound impact on Australian media, as well as its continued role in championing underrepresented voices and adapting to the future of broadcasting,” it said in a statement.

“A Launchpad for Australian Talent Channel 31 has been the starting point for some of Australia’s biggest names in entertainment. Rove McManus, Hamish & Andy, Dilruk Jayasinha, Waleed Aly, Gorgi Coghlan, Tommy Little and Annie Louey (amongst many others) all began their careers on this platform, experimenting and finding their voice long before becoming household names. The station’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent is undeniable.

“For three decades, Channel 31 has been a strong advocate for communities often underrepresented in mainstream media. Bent TV has provided the LGBTQI+ community with authentic representation since the very beginning, and the station continues to uplift marginalized voices through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander content, multicultural programming, and disability advocacy.”

Channel 31 has faced significant challenges, particularly when federal policies cast doubt on its future. The station has fought for its survival time and time again, and with the recent passage of the new Broadcasting Act, its future is finally secure.

The event takes place this Saturday night, from 6pm-11:30pm at Cathedral Hall in Fitzroy. Tickets are still available – more information here – https://www.trybooking.com/CTZNV
