A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder a week after an alleged deadly early-morning assault in the idyllic coastal city of Coffs Harbour.

Police were called to Kurrajong Street at 4.15am last Thursday morning, where they found a 41-year-old man with serious injuries to his upper body.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital, but died a short time later.

The homicide squad was called in and a joint investigation launched, culminating in the arrest of a man on Azalea Avenue in Coffs Harbour at 4.20pm yesterday.

The 24-year-old has now been charged with murder over the alleged attack.

He has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court today.
