A man has been charged after allegedly riding a motorbike through the scene of a fatal crash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge yesterday while emergency services were still on site.

The Harbour Bridge was closed in both directions yesterday following a fatal four-car and bus crash at 2.40pm yesterday.

As emergency services tended to the scene and victims, police attempted to reopen lanes on the bridge to let traffic through, when the rider of a black Honda motorcycle allegedly drove through stopped traffic and into the restricted area.

Police allegedly warned him several times to remain within the boundaries of the lane to keep the emergency workers still on the scene safe.

The rider allegedly tried to accelerate away and across the boundary when he was stopped by police managing the crime scene.

He was arrested and allegedly assaulted a police officer and transport personnel during the arrest.

He was taken to Day Street Police Station when he was charged with 12 offences including driving while suspended, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, not complying with directions to stop, and knowingly driving in a manner menacing others among other offences.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Downing Centre Local Court today.
