The widow of camper Russell Hill says she’s relieved the man who killed her husband has been jailed for 32 years for the murder of Carol Clay.

Even though Gregory Lynn was acquitted of her husband’s death, Robyn Hill says justice has been served.

“We were just all over the moon when we left (court) because we couldn’t wish for a better outcome,” Robyn told 9News.

Robyn feared the former Jetstar pilot would get away with murder.

Despite admitting to hiding and burning the bodies of her husband Russell and Clay in Victoria’s high country, Lynn claimed their deaths were an accident when police swooped in 2021.

A jury saw through Lynn’s lies but only found him guilty of Clay’s murder beyond reasonable doubt.

Robyn started crying in court as Justice Michael Croucher said through tears that he acknowledged Russell’s family’s pain at the verdict.

“In contrast… [Russell’s] loved ones are left in an excruciating legal limbo,” Justice Croucher said.

“I should acknowledge their plight, their agony, their suffering and I do.”

Robyn and others in the courtroom gasped with shock and relief when the 32-year sentence was handed down.

If Lynn appeals, Robyn doesn’t know if she’ll return to court.

And while she won’t accept Lynn’s apology for covering up the deaths – Robyn says it’s better than nothing.

“He’s not sorry,” she said.

“You can be sorry but you’re guilty. An innocent person wouldn’t be saying I’m sorry.

“He is evil because he would have had to work out all of the things to do after the event – a normal person wouldn’t be able to do that.”

Robyn, who says she knew about her husband’s affair with Clay, still misses him.

“I knew about Carol and I’ve got nothing against her, she was a very nice lady,” she said.

“We’ve just got to move on.”
