An international tourist has been chased and bitten by a dingo while going to the bathroom on K’gari.

Wildlife rangers are monitoring a male dingo after receiving the report from a beach on the island’s east coast about 8am on Sunday.

A group of the tourists had arrived on the beach and were warned of a dingo in the area by nearby campers.

“The dingo approached the woman while she was going to the toilet alone. She wasn’t carrying a stick and started to run as it approached her,” Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service said.

The dingo bit her thigh, leaving her with two wounds.

Nearby campers overheard the commotion and chased the dingo away.

Rangers are investigating the attack and will continue to patrol the area.

K’gari visitors and residents are reminded to remain vigilant, keep children at arm’s length, never walk alone and carry a stick at all times.

Negative dingo encounters should immediately be reported to a Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service ranger by calling 07 4127 9150.
