A Federal Court judge has dismissed an application for Bruce Lehrmann to pay security costs before an appeal.
Mr Lehrmann originally lost the case against Network 10 and Lisa Wilkinson after Justice Michael Lee found, on the balance of probabilities, that Lehrmann did rape Brittany Higgins at Parliament House.
Network 10 and Lisa Wilkinson had asked the Federal Court to order Lehrmann, now an unemployed law student, to pay the sum to ensure he would cover some of their legal costs if his court challenge failed.
This morning Justice Wendy Abraham dismissed 10 and Wilkinson’s application for security. They were ordered to pay Lehrmann’s legal costs incurred in opposing the application.
Bruce Lehrmann will now be able to appeal the result of his failed defamation case.
That case came after a criminal trial in the ACT Supreme Court collapsed without a verdict due to juror misconduct with no findings against him and he maintains his innocence.
Justice Wendy Abraham has also granted Mr Lehrmann a delay in the enforcement of a costs order against him in the original defamation case.
