The Board of community television broadcaster C31 has announced the resignation of Mike Zafiropoulos as Chair.

He leaves after 15 years of leadership having successfully guided C31 through uncertainty and upheaval in the sector, having played a key role in C31’s sustainability, including identifying essential new funding and securing C31’s ongoing broadcasting. He will continue to serve as Assembly President of the Melbourne Community Television Consortium (MCTC).

Joseph Matina becomes the incoming Chair and Megan Velo as Deputy Chair.

“Mike’s contribution to community television, and to C31 specifically, has been nothing short of remarkable,” said Joseph Matina.

“His fierce advocacy for community broadcasting has helped countless groups share their stories, preserve their cultural heritage, and contribute to Australia’s multicultural dialogue.

“His former service as General Manager of SBS Melbourne and his extensive community networks and philanthropic service have generated significant funding opportunities.

“His leadership, vision, and dedication have ensured that community television remains a vital platform for diverse voices in our society.

“We thank him for his outstanding service, significant contribution and exemplary leadership and look forward to building on the strong foundation he has established,” Joe said.

New Chair, Joe Matina is an accountant who has run his own business for 38 years and has extensive experience working with Not-for-Profit organisations and volunteering. He is also Treasurer of the Maltese Community Council of Victoria Inc.
