Australians searching for answers to their burning questions on Google will get an all new assistant to help with their search as Google announces their AI Overview search results will launch in Australia.
The new AI results have been tested for a small group of users in recent months, and Google has been rolling out AI Overview search results in other markets to test the use, accuracy and success of the change to Google’s Search engine.
It’s the biggest change to Google’s most fundamental service since it launched 27 years ago with Google saying that “AI Overviews can help people get to the gist of a topic or question more quickly, while also providing a jumping off point to learn more from sites across the web”.

The change will be most notable for the younger generation with trials seeing stronger engagement from users aged 18-24 with the AI Overviews.
These new AI results will be most powerful when you’re asking Google a question, with Google’s AI using the power of its global search index to not just find the best result, but present it in plain language, citing one or more sources within the answer.
Content creators have expressed concerns about this approach, with Google becoming a one stop shop for answers, but drawing on the published knowledge on websites all around the world.
Google say they are taking a “responsible and deliberate approach” to bringing these new capabilities to search – ensuring the AI models “upload Search’s high bar for quality”.
You’ll notice these new AI results on Google as they appear with a blue tint and the title AI Overview at the start of the results.
