The family of a man who was brutally beaten in an unprovoked attack in Queensland has met with the man who helped save their loved one’s life.

MMA fighter James Williams ran to help Linda’s 39-year-old son Jay when he was targeted by a stranger at Nambour bus station on Sunday.

It is understood the man had harassed several other people when he approached Williams, punched him in the face and knocked out several teeth.

Williams told 9News Queensland his instincts kicked in at that moment.

“Just take him to the ground and subdue him,” Williams said.

However, Williams said the man got up and turned his sights on Jay.

“Stomped on his head before I could get over there,” Williams said.

“When I ran over, he ran off.”

The father-of-two was rushed to hospital, where he remains in the intensive care unit.

“We’re very hopeful for a full recovery, it’s hard but we’re getting there,” Linda said.

Police are searching for the man behind the attack and continuing their investigations.
