Former NRL 360 host Paul Kent has pleaded guilty to affray charges following a street brawl outside an inner west Sydney pub in April.
Downing Centre Local Court magistrate Jennifer Price sentenced Kent to a two-year good behaviour bond after rejecting an application for the charges to be dealt with on mental health grounds.
The court heard heard Kent was walking home from a Rozelle pub when he clashed a stranger, Tamer Uzun, who made reference to previous domestic violence charges, of which Kent had been cleared.
But he came off second best in the ensuing brawl, suffering six fractured ribs and a collapsed lung as a result.
He was later stood down by FOX Sports and News Corp, before reportedly being sacked this week.
Price accepted Kent had both alcohol use disorder and a major depressive disorder, but said community safety and deterrence meant he was to be dealt with under the law – not mental health legislation.
Kent immediately pleaded guilty.
He will remain in treatment for his mental health problems, his lawyer assured the court.
