A Victorian man who “couldn’t remember the last time” he had watched a lottery draw on television happened to tune into the Powerball last night, only to watch as his numbers come up one by one.

The Lara resident held the only division one entry across Australia in last night’s Powerball, taking home a windfall of $12 million.

“It honestly hasn’t sunk in,” he laughed to an official from The Lott this morning.

“I can’t remember the last time I’ve watched a lottery draw on TV, but for some odd reason, I decided to watch it last night.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when my numbers started to come up.

“I have my numbers memorised off by heart, and I had recently added in a new number because of someone’s birthday.”

The man’s winning ticket was purchased at Lara Lotto Cards and Gifts at the Centreway in Lara.

Despite his huge windfall, the winner still woke up and went to work this morning.

However, he says he plans to start looking towards retirement.

“This will be a huge help towards the future,” he said.

“I’ve already started to wind down my hours and this will really help me transition into retirement.”

Last night marks the third time someone in the Geelong and southwest Victorian region has won a division one entry this year, collectively taking home more than $17.42 million in prize money.
