The US Presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump descended into farce, with both men momentarily engaged in a bragging contest about who is better at golf.

When asked to respond to voters who had concerns about his age, Trump used his skill on the course as an example of his physical fitness – and to take another jab at Biden.

”I’m in very good health. I won two regular club championships, not even senior, you have to be quite smart and hit the ball a long way and I do it,” Trump said.

“He doesn’t do it. He can’t hit a ball 50 yards,” he followed, referring to Biden.

“He challenged me to a golf match, he can’t hit a ball 50 yards. I think I’m in very good shape. I feel in as good as a shape as 25, 30 years ago, maybe a little lighter.”

Biden jabbed back.

“I’d be happy to have a driving contest with him. I got my handicap when I was Vice President down to a six,” retorted the current President.

“By the way, I told you before, I’m happy to play golf if you carry your own bag.”

An unimpressed Trump interjected.

“That’s the biggest lie, the six handicap,” he said.

“I’ve seen your swing, I know your swing.”

While only a short interlude into a 90-minute debate, the contest over who was better at golf typified a debate riddled with rambling answers, falsehoods and obfuscation.
