US crime drama Under the Banner of Heaven, starring Andrew Garfield, Daisy Edgar-Jones & Sam Worthington, will have a free to air premiere on SBS VICELAND this week.

The seven part series from writer Dustin Lance Black also stars Aussie Adelaide Clemens, Denise Gough, Wyatt Russell, Billy Howle, Gil Birmingham, Rory Culkin, Seth Numrich, Chloe Pirrie and Sandra Seacat.

It screened on Disney+ in 2022 and premieres in a triple play this Wednesday.

An original limited series inspired by the bestseller by Jon Krakauer, follows the murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty (Daisy Edgar Jones) and her baby daughter in a suburb of the Salt Lake Valley. As Detective Jeb Pyre (Andrew Garfield) investigates events that transpired, he uncovers buried truths about the origins of the LDS religion – Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – and the violent consequences of unyielding faith.

Episode One:
When God Was Love Detectives Jeb Pyre and Bill Taba investigate the brutal, sinister murders of an LDS woman, Brenda Wright Lafferty and her baby daughter in Utah’s typically serene Salt Lake Valley in 1984.

Episode Two:
Rightful Place With a lead suspect in custody, the investigation uncovers more ominous questions than answers as the hidden history of the once-admired Lafferty family is exposed.

Episode Three:
Surrender The ongoing investigation leads Jeb Pyre and Taba into untrod woods where they unearth information that challenges Pyre’s own faith and draws more of the Laffertys into suspicion – and custody.

Wednesday, 3 July at 8.30pm on SBS.
